My name is Abigail Segoviano, but many people call me Abi for short. I am a current fourth-year student at San Diego State University, studying Journalism and double-minoring in Spanish and Sports and Society. I am from Northern California, from the city of Richmond. I come from a Hispanic household where I grew up speaking both Spanish and English. At SDSU, I have been heavily involved in the school's publication, The Daily Aztec, since my first year of college. I have been writing about sports since my time at SDSU. I also wrote for Mundo Azteca, the Spanish section at The Daily Aztec, during my second year before becoming the section editor in my third and now fourth year. I have also been involved in the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), where I served as Vice President for two years before becoming President for my last year of college.
My career aspiration after my time at SDSU is to enter the sports journalism industry, whether that means working for a professional team or for a news outlet, in either Spanish or English. I also want to connect back to my roots by teaching Journalism or English in Richmond. As I enter my last year at SDSU, during this fall semester, my goal in JMS 430 is to continue telling stories while learning more about digital journalism, which is something I believe I have not fully explored during my time at SDSU. The one thing I am excited about is building this website because it will not only benefit me throughout this class but also serve as a tool to showcase my work to future employers.
